Youth Group Awarded Cash By Police Community Fund
A Telford based youth group is celebrating after receiving a much needed cash boost from the West Mercia Police Community Fund.
Josh Crutchley, which runs The Charlton Ballers Basketball project at the Charlton School in Wellington, received £400 from the West Mercia Police Community Fund.
The cash will be used to further develop the project, which is hoped in turn will help forge links between Police and young people and ultimately help decrease the number of anti-social behaviour incidents in the area.
A cheque was handed over to the group at the Charlton School on Friday(20 January) by Community Support Officer Maurice Brookes, who has been heavily involved in the start up of the project.

He said: "The project was set up in September 2010 with the aim to encourage young people aged 17 to 21 to play basketball on Friday evenings, in an area where anti-social behaviour had become an increasing problem for the Local Policing Team.
"Up to 20 regulars have been attending and it is now planned to develop the project by the provision of extra court time and structured/supervised coaching."
He added: "We are extremely grateful for the donation and look forward to developing the project ."
The Police Community Fund is a registered charity, which helps victims of crime, in particular those who are most vulnerable or are in greatest need.
Last year the Fund supported 109 victims and local community projects, granting £17,900.
In the last ten years it has donated a total of £127,968 to various individuals and local community projects.
The Fund is funded by voluntary contributions and proceeds of sales of seized property.
Issued: Monday 23 January 2012.
